The Arts & Beautification
The Art & Beautification Committee works within the neighborhood to preserve and enhance the ambiance and appearance of the Central West End. In cooperation with the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis, which has provided grant funding, the Committee is presently working on the installation of existing and original artworks at key intersections in the Central West End. An additional project involves the creation of an original bronze sculpture by well-known St. Louis artist Harry Weber. The Committee has focused in the last year on clean-up, tree-bed weeding and mulching and keeping the neighborhood’s planters filled.
Planning & Development
The Planning & Development Committee is responsible for review of proposed projects for compliance with standards within the Central West End Historic District, works closely with the 28th Ward Alderman and the City’s Cultural Resources Office, and provides public forums for the community on planning and development proposals. Daily permit activities are reviewed, and business signs, building facades and modifications to historic homes and building are carefully monitored. The condition of properties, sidewalks, lights, streets, sewers, etc., are considered and problems are addressed.
Committees made up of residents and business owners help plan the various events produced by the CWEA, from the Annual Meeting, the Annual Golf Tournament and the Art Fair & Taste to the Glow in the Park, Trivia Night and the Annual House Tour. We also have committees focused on Membership, Finance and Board Nominations.
