Join artist Yuko Suga as she presents her piece, Checkmate: Series 1 Prototype, 2015, a chess set inspired by the recent upheavals in Saint Louis and other cities in the United States. Suga will discuss her work and lead an activity exploring the choices we all make every day and how they inform our creative process. Participants will create a two-sided, wearable work of art.
Yuko Suga studied metalsmithing with Heikki Seppa at Washington University, where she received a Minor in Metals and a Masters in Occupational Therapy. While teaching at Craft Alliance she explored combining glass techniquess with other craft media. Her work is a reflection of the relationship between line, form, function, and process and is often inspired by events and experiences in the community and environment. She is currently a faculty member in both metals and glass, at the Craft Alliance Center for Design in Saint Louis.
