Chef Manfred Zettl is stepping out of retirement to recreate his Famous-Barr cheese-encrusted onion soup for the STL Village “Soup’s On!” spring fundraiser on Sunday, March 13, 2016, 4 p.m., at Second Presbyterian Church, 4501 Westminster Place in the Central West End. The Austrian-born Chef Zettl will share memories of running the Famous-Barr kitchen and the creation of the French onion soup that became the store’s signature dish at the March 13 event that is expected to attract his culinary fans and invoke many happy memories for St. Louisans longing for the savory treat not available since the mid-1970’s.
Chef Zettl, a resident of the Central West End, is donating his time, talent and all cooking ingredients for the STL Village benefit. STL Village is a nonprofit grassroots membership organization that supports older adults who desire to remain in their homes, stay active in their community, and socially engaged as they age. The St. Louis chapter is one of more than a hundred in the nation-wide Village-to-Village network that is revolutionizing the way Americans age in place.
