NSI Deputy Director Sarah Wickenhauser sent this update regarding last summer’s shooting of Megan Boken to CWE residents this week:
On Friday, November 22, 2013, Keith Esters pled guilty to the murder and robbery of Megan Boken. The attack occurred on August 18, 2012 near the corner of Taylor and Maryland in the Central West End neighborhood. Esters was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years by Circuit Judge Steven Ohmer.
The NSI staff would like to thank those of you who took the time to write an impact statement and attend the sentencing hearing. Your involvement in the criminal justice process is appreciated and showed support for the family and friends of Megan Boken.
Johnathan Perkins, the co-defendant who has also been charged in connection with the murder, has a court hearing scheduled for January 6, 2014. The NSI office will again be asking for your support by submitting Neighborhood Impact Statements and attending the hearing. As we get closer to the hearing we will keep you informed of any updates.
