Host Family Needed for Exchange Student

July 5, 2013

Youth for Understanding currently has a student from Switzerland that they are hoping to place with a family who lives in St. Louis/Central West End. She has already been accepted at Crossroads and arrangements for the payment of her tuition have been made. She just needs a host family.

Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program

St. Louis is a YFU YES Program Community. The State Department funds scholarships for high school student scholars from predominantly Muslim countries to live with volunteer host families in the US. This year we had a student from Jordan who attended Parkway Central and a student from Egypt who attended Crossroads College Preparatory School.

YFU will bring several YES Program students to St. Louis for the 2013-14 school year. We’re currently looking for families interested in hosting them. Host families provide meals, a bed, and ensure the student can get to school.  Students have their own health insurance and bring their own spending money. Host families receive a $50 tax credit for each month they host.

Youth For Understanding (YFU)

YFU is a volunteer based nonprofit that was founded on the idea that giving young people the opportunity to live in another country would increase their understanding and respect for people of other cultures. YFU awards scholarships to American high school students worth a total of $2 million every year. We are established in more than sixty countries and have sent over 250,000 young people abroad since 1951.

Please take a moment to think about a family who might be interested in hosting a student. An interested family can contact our Field Director Stephen Rutherford at or call his office at 636-812-2338.
